Rob Hogan and Ann Leonard live on Hogan's Magnolia View Farm outside of Carrboro. The Hogan family has farmed this land for over 240 years. Rob is a professional farmer and a graduate of the Agricultural Institute at N. C. State University. He has worked with cattle throughout his entire life, including 20 years as a dairy farmer. Rob is certified by the state to sell meat (Reg. No. 393). Rob's cattle live happily in the Calvander area. Rob and Ann are personally committed to supporting access to locally produced agricultural products.
The Hogan family has been farming this land since 1757. Rob is a 9th generation farmer. The early years of the farm were subsistence farming. The Hogan family raised their own food, chickens, pork and beef, sold timber and served as active members of the early Calvander (named for Calvin Andrews) community. They also traveled around the county, thrashing wheat for other farmers. In the early 1930's, the Hogan brothers (Henry, Jack, Glen and Hubert) ran the first electrical line from town to Calvander. In 1930, Lake Hogan Farm was formed and operated as a commercial diary for over 65 years. Many generations of UNC students remember swimming and relaxing at Lake Hogan.

The Hogan Boys
Since 1924, the Hogan family has been the home of the UNC mascot, Rameses. The current ram is the 17th. The tradition began when UNC head cheerleader, Vic Huggins, suggested the use of a battering ram to honor the talented fullback Jack Merritt.
